In a special election held on Tuesday, Kimball residents rejected all three measures on the ballot. 298 Kimball residents turned out for day of and early voting in the election.

Proposition one which would have continued an economic development program in place for the last 15 years. While the program has helped numerous Kimball business, opponents site the lack of downtown development as a reason to vote no.

The proposition failed in the 1st Ward 76 yes to 87 no, and in early voting 23 yes and 37 no. 2nd Ward residents were in favor of the measure with 38 yes votes and 37 no votes. In total, it failed 137 yes to 161 no.

Proposition two would have actually funded the economic development program. Both measures would have to pass for the program to continue. This proposition failed with 77 yes votes and 86 no votes in the 1st Ward, 39 yes to 36 no in the 2nd Ward and 24 yes to 35 no in early voting. It failed with a total vote of 132 yes votes and 165 no votes.

Proposition three aimed to solve infrastructure problems in the city of Kimball. It would have added an additional one-half percent to sales and use tax to pay for streets, sidewalks, waste water systems, water mains and airport equipment among other things. Namely, a new $9 million sewer line is needed to carry waste to the waste water plant. That proposition failed as well.

In the 1st Ward, 73 people voted yes and 89 voted no, in the 2nd Ward 39 people voted yes and 35 voted no, and there were 20 yes votes and 41 no votes in early voting.

Mayor John Morrison will be live on 104.3 KIMB Thursday morning at 8:30am to discuss the results and where the city goes from here.
