Authorities investigating fatal motorcycle accident in Sidney Monday
SIDNEY - A Sidney man died, and a second Sidney man was injured, when a motorcycle and a sedan collided at the intersection of Jennifer Lane and Link 17J on Monday afternoon.
The Cheyenne County Sheriff's office says a 2014 Ford Focus, driven by Curtis Strausser, of Sidney, attempted to turn east onto Jennifer Lane from southbound Link 17J when it struck a northbound 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Garrett Tvrs, 33, of Sidney, at 5:37 p.m.
The car involved in the crash sustained damage to the front of the vehicle. The motorcycle was tipped on its side near the median.
Tvrs and Strausser were both transported by ambulance to Sidney Regional Medical Center. Tvrs passed away from his injuries at 6:25 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Strausser was cited for Improper Lane Turn, Failure to Yield and misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide. An update on his injuries was not released.
The northbound lanes and one southbound lane of Link 17J were closed while authorities investigated the crash and the scene was cleared.
The Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Regional West EMS and Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
