Local teen earns Eagle Scout recognition
SIDNEY -- Sidney's Jayce Namuth Sunday was recognized for his achievements in Boy Scouts.
Namuth was recognized for completion of his Eagle Scout project during a ceremony at Lodgepole Youth Camp Sunday.
Leading a project is part of the requirement in attaining Eagle Scout level in Boy Scouts. Scouts also need to earn at least 21 merit badges before earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Of 21 merit badges, 14 must come from the list of Eagle-requirements and the remaining seven from any other merit project.
Namuth's Eagle Project was proposed by the Lodgepole Youth Camp board.
"The Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp Board came to me and asked if for my Eagle Scout project I would like to build some horseshoe pits. They sounded like fun. They sounded like a very useful thing for the camp. So, I got all my scouts together. We did all the planning, got all the resources. They came together and it went relatively smooth," Namuth said.
The ceremony included a lighting of candles and explaining of their meaning, led by Scoutmaster Roland Broughton. At the beginning of the service, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by the Scout Oath, the Eagle Oath and the presentation of Eagle Rank.
Namuth then presented a pin to his mother and his father.
He was also presented a U.S. flag by American Legion Post No. 17 in honor of his achievement by Les Larson.
