Storms knock out power, damages crops Saturday

SIDNEY - Severe storms knocked out power, washed out county roads and covered highways in hail Saturday afternoon.
Trained weather spotters reported flash flooding on roads and fields near Sunol at 4:32 p.m. Flood waters were also seen over county roads near Redington and in Bayard in Morrill County.
Hail, up to golf ball size at times, shredded crops, trees and plants, and broke windows across the Nebraska Panhandle and southeast Wyoming. A storm report indicated a flipped pivot and completely stripped corn crops eight miles northeast of Sidney at 3:52 p.m. Corn was shredded down to the crown near Bayard.
The Cheyenne County Sheriff's office advised runoff from heavy rain washed out County Road 125 near County Road 44. There were also reports of Highway 385, just west of Dalton, was under water at 3:44 p.m.
Wheat Belt Public Power District and the City of Chappell both reported widespread power outages.
Authorities responded to a rollover accident on Highway 26 east of Minatare. Hail on the road and dense fog was reported at the time of the accident.
