North Platte St. Pat's rushes for over 300 yards in season opening victory over Bridgeport
NORTH PLATTE - Senior James Heirigs rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns, on 21 carries, and the North Platte St. Pat's football team defeated Bridgeport, 48-12, Friday night in North Platte.
Junior Jaxon Knisley added 108 yards rushing on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Senior Sam Troshynski scored the Irish's other touchdown.
The Irish (1-0), who are at Cambridge next Friday, finished with 328 total rushing yards. St. Pat's has qualified for the postseason 15 consecutive seasons, including a semi-final appearance a season ago.
Bridgeport scored the first points of the game following a St. Pat's interception, but the Irish scored on their next drive to take a 7-6 lead and never looked back in their season opening win.
Bulldog senior Peyton Abbot rushed for 76 yards on 18 carries and scored once. Sophomore Nikolas Weibert threw for 37 yards and rushed for 37 yards and a score. Bridgeport finished with 211 total yards of offense.
The Bulldogs (0-1) will have their home opener against Perkins County (0-0) next Friday.
