KIMBALL - Kimball radio station, 1043 KIMB, announced Monday the addition of Tom O’Brien as its new play-by-play announcer.

O’Brien, a Kimball High School graduate, will be the voice of the Kimball Longhorns football, and will also call a select number of volleyball and basketball games through the 2023-2024 school year.

“It’s all about supporting the school and the kids and building a culture of school spirit that the whole community can be proud of,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien is also a current member of the Kimball School Board.

“We knew Tom was our guy from the very beginning,” 1043 KIMB Operations Manager Jay Allen said. “Tom embodies the pride and loyalty to the Kimball community that we want to achieve on KIMB.”

O’Brien joins a sports broadcast team at Flood Communications – Western Nebraska led by veteran announcer Randy Brown. Allen and Cooper White will also be heard in the booth this year on 1043 KIMB, 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country.

Kimball sports fans will be able to listen to the majority of the home and away schedules for football, volleyball and basketball on 104.3 FM, 1043KIMB.com and on the free News Channel Nebraska app.

O'Brien will make his debut this Friday when Kimball travels to Hyannis to open the 2023 football season at 7 p.m.
