KIMBALL - The Kimball football team snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 40-10 win over Leyton Friday night in Kimball.

It was the Longhorns' first win since Sept. 23, 2022 when they beat Morrill 46-12. It was also their first victory at home since a 60-42 win over Perkins County on Sept. 28, 2018.

Leyton scored first, early in the game, after they pinned Kimball deep near their own goal line, and then sacked quarterback Ryker Behrend in the end zone for a safety. Those 2 points would be all Leyton would put on the board until very late in the game.

A 41-yard touchdown run by Derek Kauffman two minutes into the game opened the scoring for Kimball. Kauffman had a game-high 139 yards rushing.

Smash mouth football was Kimball’s game plan for the night, as the Longhorns rushed for 339 yards, including 41 yards for Greg Bingham, 60 for Luke Berger and 95 for Noe Trevino.

16 different Kimball players combined for 56 tackles. Leading the way on defense were Greg Bingham with 12 tackles and Conner Deboodt with 8. Derek Russell came up with 3 big sacks on the night and Brandon Paxton had 3 interceptions.

Leyton managed to score late in the contest after both teams had taken their starters out of the game.

Kimball moves to 1-1 on the season, while Leyton drops to 0-2. Next up for the Longhorns will be another home game on Friday vs. North Platte St. Pat's. Catch the game on 1043 KIMB.

The Warriors' game at home vs. Morrill (0-2) will be broadcast on 987 The Big Boy.
