Escorted by Kimball County Sheriff's deputies, Kimball Police, and seven volunteer motorcyclists, 15 Nebraska veterans and their companions drove through Kimball Thursday. The convoy made a stop at the Kimball Visitors Center before continuing on to Denver International Airport.

The visitor center staff welcomed the veterans with cupcakes and refreshments to enjoy while taking in the history of, and merchandise from Kimball County. Each veteran had a traveling companion. Some were spouses, some were children, and some brought other veterans for support. They rode in five SUV's and vans lent to the cause by area car dealerships.

The honor flights are in cooperation between airlines and various veteran charities.  Once in Washington, the vets will be treated to tours of the various monuments built to honor them.
