WNCC women tie Lamar
LAMAR, Colo. – In one of the more even matches of the season, the Western Nebraska Community College and Lamar Community College women’s soccer teams couldn’t settle things on the soccer field as the two teams tied 2-2 Saturday in a Region IX conference contest in Lamar, Colorado.
Saturday’s contest was one where the Cougars dominated on the offensive end, but could only bury two goals.
Lamar got the scoring going first as Emma Long scored to give the Runnin’ Lopes an early 1-0 lead. The Cougars tied the game before halftime when Lesley Vasquez delivered the ball to Tania Razo, who found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
The Cougars came out in the second half and went up 2-1 as the combination of Vasquez and Razo scored again. Razo netted her second goal to put WNCC up 2-1.
WNCC couldn’t hold the lead as Lamar’s Daisy Gonzalez scored to even the score at 2-2 and that is where the game ended.
WNCC outshot Lamar 29-14. Razo and Aileen Perez each had four shots in the contest. Perez had all four on goal while Razo had three on goal. Vazquez also had three shots while Alejandra Rodriguez had two.
WNCC goalkeeper had seven saves in net.
Both teams had seven corner kicks.
WNCC, 3-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play, will be back in action this weekend when they host Trinidad State on Friday and Otero on Saturday. WNCC will then wrap up the regular season October 14 when they host Laramie County Community College on October 14.
WNCC men fall to Lamar 4-3
LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team’s second half comeback came up a little short as the Lamar Community College men’s soccer team posted a 4-3 Region IX conference win Saturday in Lamar, Colorado.
The Cougars fell behind the 8-ball early to the Runnin’ Lopes, trailing 4-0 early in the second half.
Lamar led 3-0 at halftime as the Lopes Sebastian Ortega-Que scored 11 minutes into the game to make it 1-0. Lamar made it 2-0 two minutes later as Jose Soto scored. Lamar made it 3-0 when Adani Hassan scored in the 21st minute. After that, neither team scored as Lamar had the 3-0 halftime lead.
Lamar wasted little time in the second half to score again as Ortega-Qui scored just nine minutes into the half for a 4-0 lead.
WNCC finally got their act together as they mounted a comeback. Pablo Dominquez got things going as he too took a pass from Eduardo Oliveira in the 66th minute to get the Cougars on the board.
Two minutes later, the same duo teamed up again as Oliveira passed to Dominguez and the sophomore scored in the 68th minute.
WNCC got to within one in the 71st minutes when Sebastian Arenas recorded the assist as he fed Oliveira the ball, who put the ball into the net to make it 4-3.
That, however, was all the scoring was as Lamar held on to get the win.
WNCC outshot Lamar 14-7 and also had more corner kicks with five compared to two for Lamar.
WNCC goalkeeper Hernan Burdiles had seven saves in net for the Cougars.
