'Veterans Appreciation Concert' at Elks Lodge features regional artists
SIDNEY -- Military veterans will have their night Saturday as the second Veterans Appreciation Concert will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge.
This year's concert features Mud County and Sarah Carper.
With songs like "Tillin', Drillin', Chillin'" and "A Moment," Mud County plays to the country way of life found in eastern Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming.
Sarah Carper sings the ballads that brings a person back to their roots with songs like "Take Me to Wyoming," and "The Wind Don't blow in Casper." She is from northeast Wyoming and calls Casper her home.
The concert is $10 for the public and free to military veterans. Doors open at 6 p.m. The Elks will be offering drink specials and pulled pork or brisket nachos. In addition, there will be a silent auction. The silent auction will include a Yeti Tundra cooler, electric dartboard, a 1920s car clock, a train clock, a 256GB iPad Air, an electric scooter, a Schumacher Ranch beef package and more.
Proceeds from the night will be applied to local vets in need. Some of the needs local veterans face is the complexity in filing for health care coverage. Veteran Service Officer Fred Wiedeburg said filing to get VA healthcare or for claims need to be done "sooner than later." Whitney Whatley, Cheyenne County Veteran Service Office office manager said the VA is doing really well at stepping up with mental health. They said the VA is becoming more holistic in its healthcare approach; the link between foods and wellness, mental and physical wellness.
The Sidney Elks Lodge is located at 1040 Jackson St., Sidney.
