Business proposals varied from financial assistance, niche clothing designs to specific service businesses.

Each of the 14 entries were also competing from scholarships, cash and prizes.

The contest was divided into three parts: writing a business plan, presenting the "pitch" before judges, and taking part in a trade show where they explained their service or business to the public.

Sarah Sinnett, a member of the Sidney E3 group, explained how the judges became part of the December 8 program.

"Our judges were all the way from across the state and were phenomenal and took days off work to spend time with us. So, our judges, I want to say thank you she's not here but Sarah Bennett. She's director of entrepreneurship and rural development in UNK, and also secured a $500 scholarship for us. Brittany Hardin is our representative from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development came all the way from Lincoln, and then, Richard Gibson," Sinnett said.

The public was invited to judge the trade show entries as well.

Sidney High School Business Teacher Ashley Fehringer commended the students for their achievements.

"So many people that just said you know most people, most high schoolers, adults, could not just stand up and talk to the community like that and give that pitch, so ... just stepping out of their comfort zones, it's just incredible to watch the kids do that," she said after the awards ceremony December 8.
