SIDNEY -- The holiday spirit of giving and support shines brightly as the Sidney and Greater Area Fund (SAGA) contributes a heartfelt donation of $2,500 to the King's Daughters for their annual Christmas Food Basket program.

This substantial grant will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Cheyenne County families experiencing financial constraints receive essential meals during the festive season.

For many years, the King's Daughters have devoted themselves to providing Christmas Food Baskets to families facing economic challenges. Each basket contains food items to prepare a complete Christmas meal.

In 2022, the King's Daughters distributed 184 food boxes, benefiting a total of 485 individuals across Cheyenne County. The generosity extended beyond a typical holiday meal, encompassing not only traditional foods such as ham, potatoes, vegetables, dressing, rolls, butter, and pie but also essential staples like milk, cereal, eggs, bread, peanut butter, and fruit. These meals are made possible through the efforts of Sonny's and Safeway employees, who graciously contribute their time and resources to compile the boxes.

"The King's Daughters Christmas Food Basket program represents the epitome of community care. Through SAGA's support, we aim to ensure that families facing financial hardships experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season with a complete Christmas meal. This program not only provides nourishment but also fosters a sense of hope and togetherness within our community," said Michaela Nelson and Diane Michie with Kings Daughters.

SAGA Chairperson Melissa Norgard said SAGA is glad to play a role in the King's Daughters outreach.

“SAGA is honored to play a part in supporting this invaluable initiative. This program not only offers nourishment but also serves as a beacon of hope during what can be a challenging time for many. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the King's Daughters and all those involved for their tireless dedication to making a difference in the lives of our neighbors. SAGA remains committed to standing alongside organizations that actively work towards uplifting and supporting our community, particularly during the holiday season," Norgard said.

SAGA's contribution underscores the significance of local collaboration and demonstrates a commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift and assist those in need, especially during the holidays.
