Maywood WWII Veteran turns 100, awarded Nebraska Admiral, given Quilt of Valor

World War II Veteran Doug Baker turned 100 years old on Saturday, and at his party he was awarded a Quilt of Valor, as well as awarded the rank of Admiral in the Navy of Nebraska.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - World War II Veteran Doug Baker turned 100 years old on Saturday, and at his party he was awarded a Quilt of Valor, as well as awarded the rank of Admiral in the Navy of Nebraska.

While Nebraska is the only triply landlocked state in the U.S., it does still have a navy that is mainly for ceremonial purposes.

Baker was presented with the rank as well as the quilt for his service in World War II, specifically the his combat service in Okinawa where he was one of only a few survivors in his unit.

Baker now spends his days driving across the region dancing, as well as spending time with his family.

Other notable Admirals in the State of Nebraska’s Navy are Bing Crosby, Ronald Regan, Johnny Carson and Bill Gates.
