Sidney man in custody following assault

SIDNEY -- At about 12:55 p.m. Thursday, Sidney Police officers were called to a report of a physical assault in progress at the Quality Inn.
The assault was taking place inside of the motel, according to Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens. He said the report was of a man assaulting hotel staff.
"Upon arrival, I identified an individual who had assaulted at least two members of the staff, and committed several other crimes there. With the assistance of the sheriff's office, I place him under arrest and he was transported to the jail," Aikens said.
The suspect is identified as Matthew L. Cleays, 40, of Sidney.
He was arrested on two counts of Third Degree Assault, Disturbing the Peace, Impersonating a Police Officer, Criminal Attempt at Robbery, and False Imprisonment.
Chief Aikens said he was informed that while in the booking room, officers found Cleays in possession of methamphetamine.
He was reported as "uncooperative" during booking.
