BUSHNELL – The Kimball County Sheriff's Office confirmed two fatalities in weather-related accidents that closed Interstate 80 in both directions from Bushnell, Neb. to Pine Bluffs, Wyo. Saturday night.

According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, the accidents were in both the east and westbound lanes west of Bushnell between mile markers zero and three. Traffic was diverted to U.S. Highway 30 in both Nebraska and Wyoming.

Kimball County Sheriff’s Office, Bushnell Fire Department, Kimball Fire Department, Kimball EMS, Nebraska Road Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Kimball Police Department, Pine Bluffs Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Laramie County Fire District 5 also responded to the scene. 

The road was completely covered in snow and ice at the time of the accident, according to the NDOT. Chelle Neeb reported eight inches of snow at her residence in Bushnell earlier on Saturday. More than 10 inches of snow was reported by Sarah Weisbrook 18 miles south of Bushnell.  Meteorologist Patrick McMillan says the City of Kimball received around six inches of snow.
