The Sidney Red Raider wrestling team qualified three wrestlers for this NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha Saturday at the B-4 District in Aurora. All three wrestlers were in the championship match with one champion and a pair of runner-up finishes. Junior Patrick McCartney was a champion at 190 lbs., while sophomore Zech Roggasch and senior Landon Hanes finished second at 165 lbs. and 285 lbs. respectively.

That was one day after the Sidney and Bridgeport girl’s teams each succeeded in sending a pair of wrestlers to Omaha to compete in the championships from the A-4 District meet in Broken Bow. For Sidney, senior Izabelle Owens placed second at 140 lbs., while junior Saphira Whitley took fourth place at 170 lbs. Bridgeport had a pair of third-place finishers in Morgan Amateis at 110 lbs. and Kyra Robbins at 125 lbs.

Garden County will be sending four wrestlers to Omaha after crowning a pair of District Champions on Saturday at the Class D-4 District at Bayard. The Eagles also had a runner-up and a third-place finish on the day. Freshman Cable Larsen at 120 lbs. and senior Gunner Roberson at 165 lbs. took home gold while freshman Jase Roberson was a runner-up at 126 lbs. Sophomore Luke Gardner placed third for Garden County at 113 lbs. Kimball will also be represented in Omaha by freshman Cameron McGinnis who placed third at 132 lbs. for the Longhorns.

Wrestling for all classes begins Thursday with first-round and quarterfinals at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha. First and second round consolation matches will take place Friday morning and afternoon with the semifinals and third-round consolation matches Friday night. Consolation semifinals, third and fifth place, and championship matches will all be on Saturday.
