Loomis-Goltl ties sister's scoring mark to help Bridgeport return to state tournament
BRIDGEPORT - Ruthie Loomis-Goltl, a redshirt freshman at the University of Colorado, broke the career basketball scoring record at Bridgeport High School last season.
Her mark hangs by a thread after her sister, Olivia, scored a game-high 28 points in the Bulldogs' C1-4 District Final victory over Gordon-Rushville, 67-49, on Friday night in Bridgeport. Olivia's 28 points ties her with Ruthie as the school's all-time leading scorer at 2,075 points.
She's just four points shy from passing Jordan Hooper as the Nebraska Panhandle's all-time leading scorer in girls basketball. Olivia broke the school record for most points scored in a season with 574 points. The previous record was held by Ruthie at 563 points.
Olivia will set the new scoring mark when the Bulldogs play in their fourth consecutive Nebraska School Activities Association State Tournament next week in Lincoln. No. 4 Bridgeport opens the tournament against No. 5 Minden (20-3) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 10:45 a.m. CDT on Thursday.
Loomis-Goltl was one of four players in double figures for the Bulldogs on Friday. Tacey From finished with 16 points, Ella Schluterbusch chipped in 11 points and Grace Dean had 10.
Trinity Taylor led the Mustangs with 21 points. Haley Johnson finished with 10. Gordon-Rushville (14-8) trailed 29-25 at halftime.
Bridgeport (25-0) will play in their 11th state tournament in school history next Wednesday through Saturday. The Bulldogs have won two state trophies the last two seasons: runner-up in 2022 and third place in 2023.
