Ronsiek scores 25, leads 5 in double figures as No. 23 Creighton women rout Xavier 99-57
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Emma Ronsiek scored 15 of her 25 points in the first half and No. 23 Creighton routed Xavier 99-57 on Tuesday night.
Five players scored in double figures for Creighton, which has won consecutive games since rebounding from a 20-point loss to then-No. 15 UConn on Feb. 19 that ended an 11-game winning streak. Each of the six seniors for Creighton had at least one of the Bluejays' 10 3-pointers.
Morgan Maly scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Creighton (23-4, 14-3 Big East). Lauren Jensen chipped in with 16 points, and Molly Mogensen and Mallory Brake each scored 10.
Creighton closed the first quarter on a 13-3 run for a 24-12 advantage and led 43-30 at the break. Xavier cut the deficit to 47-36 early in the third quarter before Creighton pulled away on a 22-6 run heading into the fourth. Eight Bluejays combined for 30 points, while shooting 87 % (13 of 15), in the fourth quarter.
Aizhanique Mayo scored 13 points and Daniela Lopez added 12 for Xavier (1-25, 0-17).
Creighton has won 15 straight against Xavier and is 19-2 in the series.
Xavier hosts Georgetown on Saturday. Creighton concludes its regular season on the road against Seton Hall on Sunday.
Lucas' game-winner leads Nevada over Colorado State, 77-74
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Jarod Lucas led Nevada with 23 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with one second remaining, and the Wolf Pack beat Colorado State 77-74 on Tuesday night.
Lucas also contributed seven rebounds for the Wolf Pack (23-6, 10-5 Mountain West Conference). Tre Coleman scored 16 points while going 6 of 8 (3 for 4 from 3-point range). Hunter McIntosh shot 4 for 11 (2 for 7 from 3-point range) and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points.
The Rams (20-9, 8-8) were led by Isaiah Stevens, who posted 23 points, six assists and two steals. Colorado State also got 15 points and two blocks from Joel Scott. Nique Clifford also had 10 points, five assists and two blocks.
Lucas scored 12 points in the first half for Nevada, who led 39-28 at halftime. Lucas led Nevada with 11 points in the second half, including his game-winner.
Degenhart scores 21, Boise State defeats Air Force 79-48
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Tyson Degenhart's 21 points helped Boise State defeat Air Force 79-48 on Tuesday night.
Degenhart had five rebounds for the Broncos (20-8, 11-4 Mountain West Conference). Chibuzo Agbo scored 17 points while shooting 5 for 7 (4 for 5 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line, and added six rebounds. O'Mar Stanley finished with 15 points.
The Falcons (9-18, 2-13) were led by Rytis Petraitis, who recorded 19 points and nine rebounds. Ethan Taylor added eight points and four assists for Air Force. Byron Brown also had seven points.
Boise State took the lead with 14:49 left in the first half and never looked back. Degenhart led the Broncos with nine points to help put them up 28-26 at the break. Boise State pulled away with a 17-1 run in the second half. Degenhart led the way with a team-high 12 second-half points.
Boone, Whaley lead UNLV to 75-69 OT win over Wyoming
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Kalib Boone scored 24 points, six in overtime, and Rob Whaley Jr. scored seven of his nine in the extra period to lead UNLV over 75-69 on Tuesday night.
Boone also added 12 rebounds for the Rebels (17-10, 10-5 Mountain West Conference). Dedan Thomas Jr. scored 13 points while shooting 5 for 17, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc. Justin Webster shot 3 of 5 from the field and 3 for 3 from the line to finish with 11 points.
The Cowboys (13-15, 6-9) were led in scoring by Brendan Wenzel, who finished with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Wyoming also got 13 points from Sam Griffin. Mason Walters finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
