MAC All-Conference Basketball Selections Announced
The Minuteman Activities Conference announced the All-Conference selections for the 2023-2024 basketball season. For the girls, the Bayard Tigers led the way with four total All-Conference honors followed by the Leyton Warriors who totaled three All-Conference selections. Both teams had two First Team honorees. The Garden County Eagles and the Potter-Dix Coyotes paced the boy’s All-Conference selections with three honorees each.
The girl’s First Team was led by Leyton’s Zaili Benish who paced the conference in scoring. The 5’4” junior averaged 23.1 points per game while dishing out 5.0 assists and collecting 4.7 steals per contest. Her teammate, 5’9” senior Shawnee Gamble, added 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the 21-4 Warriors. Seniors Lexi Fiscus and Joslyn Hopkins offered a solid one-two punch for 22-4 Bayard. The 5’10” Fiscus averaged 14.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while the 6’1” Hopkins chipped in 14.0 points and 5.6 rebound per game for the Tigers. South Platte’s Maddi Cheleen rounds out the MAC Conference Girls First Team. The 5’8” senior led the 16-7 Blue Knights with 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds, while dishing out 4.6 assists per game.
The Boys First Team features two players that averaging a double-double on the season, and a third that wasn’t far behind. Creek Valley’s Lane Brenneman paced the conference in scoring and rebounding on the season. The 6’3” sophomore averaged 21.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game for the 5-14 Storm. Jonathan Kruse of Leyton also averaged double-digit points and rebounds. The 6’4” senior le the 10-13 Warriors with 13.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. Garden County sophomore, Logan Levick, just missed averaging a double-double with 12.3 points and 9.6 rebound per outing. Brayden Kaston paced Potter-Dix to an 11-12 record with 17.6 points per game, The 6'2" senior also collected 5.9 steals per game for the Coyotes. South Platte’s Dash Richards rounds out the boys First Team. The 6'0" senior led the 12-11 Blue Knights with 14.4 points per game while grabbing 7.4 rebounds per contest.
