SIDNEY -- A workshop is planned for April that will help retail and service workers connect with customers.

Getting a return customer, or even a first time visitor, takes the right skills, and this program helps a person develop those skills, according to Cheyenne County Tourism Director Kendra Mitchell.

"The Red Carpet Service Training is a training that we try to offer at least once a year. We team up with UNL's Rural Prosperity Nebraska group to have trainers come and talk about how to provide the best customer service, but also how to give better directions to make sure people that are visiting our area know about all the great things that we have in Cheyenne County," she said.

The training shows how to build a relationship with the customer, and guide them to attractions and activities within the county.

"We aim the training at all front-line service people, so its great for people in hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, anywhere where you might interact with people that are coming in from out of town. Our unique retail shops downtown like the flower shops, and the boutiques, those are great people to bring to these trainings. They are the ones interacting with travelers and visitors to make sure those people have the best experience and want to come back to our community," she said.

The "Red Carpet Service Training" program is provided by the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and Rural Prosperity Nebraska.

The 2 1/2 hour session starts at 6 p.m. April 24 at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds 4-H Building.
