SIDNEY -- The Sidney City Council has approved an agreement with Hein Construction for crack sealing work.

Street Superintendent Hank Radtke met with the council in the March 26 meeting. During the meeting, Radtke said the Street Department budgeted $75,000 for crack sealing product.

The project was awarded to Hein Construction at a cost of 38 cents per foot. Radtke said Hein Construction expects to start April 14 and finish and finish in 10 to 14 days. The company's proposal is April 14 to May 30.

Radtke said the City purchases the sealant separately to ensure the quality of the product.

"The City furnishes the product. The reason the City the product is we can control what goes into it, and not some cheap stuff that won't stay; not all crack seal is the same. Crack seal, for instance, does not work here," Radtke said.

He said City staff will also be with the company when the project is measured.

"When they measure cracks, we have a crew member, and it doesn't matter who gets the bid, my policy is we have a guy goes out and measures with them so they can't say 'well, we did this and didn't really do that much.' We have a guy. They don't measure until we have someone with them," Radtke said.
