Dwayne was born on March 19, 1951 to Ronald E. and Wilda M. (Hrbek) Ahlberg.  Dwayne attended Sidney public schools and was a part of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) during high school. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1969.  He always loved to joke that, “Nothing could be finer than to be a 69er.” After high school, Dwayne joined the Navy and actively served from 1970-1974.  He was stationed in San Diego, CA and served time aboard the USS Peoria (LST-1183), the Western Pacific, and many other countries. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Upon his discharge, Dwayne worked in construction and later went on to college.  He attended Laramie Community College from 1980-82 in Cheyenne, WY and the University of Wyoming from 1982-84 in Laramie, WY.  After completing his education, Dwayne returned to Sidney where he worked in screen printing until 1990.  He then went on to become the purchasing manager for a local manufacturing company and retired in 2015, after 25 years of service.

Dwayne loved his family and being an “Unc” to his niece and her two children. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching it on TV when he couldn’t be out on the green. He had a love for cars whether it be antiques, classics, muscle cars, hot rods, or pickups.  He was an artist at heart who loved music and drawing with pencil, painting with acrylics, and even dabbling in watercolor.  He enjoyed watching college football and was a huge fan of the Nebraska Huskers, Wyoming Cowboys, and the Navy football teams.

Dwayne’s survivors include his sister, Rhonda Pollat of Sidney, NE; his niece, Ashlee Runge of Colorado Springs, CO, and her children; his great niece, Jaecynda Nienhuser of Laramie, WY, and his great nephew Dontae Runge of Colorado Springs, CO.

Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents; Ronald E. Ahlberg and Wilda M. Ahlberg, his brother-in-law, James L. Pollat, and a baby niece.
