The show goes on: Sidney High School performs musical despite weather conditions
With a winter storm raging outside, the actors of the Sidney High School Fine Arts Program performed "Legally Blonde: The Musical" inside a cozy Sidney High School Performing Arts Center this weekend.
Madi Packer, who played the lead character Elle Woods, thanked David Mead for giving them the chance to put on this production. Mead unfortunately stepped away from the play because of health reasons.
Packer also thanked Erin Huddleston for stepping in to help bring the show to the stage. With only three weeks to get the actors ready it was a huge task to get 20 actors to learn parts and block the play.
Madi’s father, Eric Packer, was also thanked from the stage. He spent hours helping not only to build sets, but also getting businesses to donate props and sponsorships, and market the production.
The fine arts programed held performances on Friday and Saturday night, and a matinee on Sunday afternoon. The musical was a heartwarming story of a young woman applying to Harvard Law School to follow her one true love. Attendees were able to watch as Elle Woods discovered that she can be smart and beautiful, and still worthy of love.
Packer, along with fellow senior Duncan Carrasco, are looking to continue in the performing arts after graduation.
Duncan, who played Emmett Forrest in the production, will be attending Concordia University after graduation where he will be studying Theater Arts. Packer will be attending the American Musical Dramatic Academy.
Both actors are no stranger to the stage, both appearing in school and Way Out West Theatre productions. Many might recognize them as Peter Pan and Tink from the last Way Out West children’s play, "Peter Pan".
