RUSHVILLE, Neb. — A Gordon teen accused of murdering her newborn baby will be tried as an adult. 17-year-old Chloe Coplen-Anderson made an appearance in Sheridan County District Court on Friday to withdraw her motion to move her case to juvenile court.

According to court documents, Gordon Police and EMTs arrived at Coplen-Anderson’s home on Nov. 6 after receiving a call about a juvenile giving birth at home to an infant who wasn’t breathing.

The documents said that officers were met at the door by the teen’s father who said that the baby had been stillborn, but when an officer went into the bedroom where the girl was, the mother said her daughter had hurt the baby. The officer said that when he attempted to provide first aid, he found the baby had been stabbed several times.

Coplen-Anderson has pled not guilty to three charges, including murder. She previously had filed a motion to transfer to juvenile court, but her attorney said that after consulting with an expert, Dr. Kirk Newring, they decided to withdraw the motion. He said that while they believe Coplen-Anderson fits the criteria to be tried as a juvenile, she may not be able to receive all needed services before turning 19.

Her attorney also said that he’s had preliminary discussions about a possible plea agreement. She’s scheduled back in court on May 7 for a scheduling conference.
