SIDNEY -- The 4-H Building at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds was near capacity with supporters of the Sidney Shooting Park Saturday, April 20.

Dinner and drinks, and an assortment of silent and live auction items and chances of other related items filled the 4-H Building at the annual Sidney Shooting Park fundraiser dinner and auction. The Shooting Park has a variety of outdoor activities geared toward outdoor shooting activities, said Sidney Shooting Park President Justin Christensen.

"We have all kinds of things going on at the Shooting Park. We're an ever-growing facility to meet the needs and desires of all of our local citizens as well as people all over the Panhandle of Nebraska, Northeast Colorado. We have a pistol range, we have competition arena for any kind of pistol competitions that we choose to do or people are interested in doing," said Christensen.

Not everyone who is a member of the Sidney Shooting Park grew up with firearms in the house, according to Vice-President Jaime Dykeman.

"Honestly, I did not grow up with any knowledge of firearms and was exposed to some local people that brought me along, showed me how to shoot, and now recreational shooting is a big passion of mine," Dykeman said.

She said the journey was she didn't grow up with it, but had really great, welcoming, people. She said the Shooting Park is busy expanding and growing to meet the needs of its membership and the community.

"Futuristically, we're still in construction with the rifle range. That's our biggest vision coming soon It will be 400-yard range with several different yardages for targets in two different stages," Dykeman said.

She said that will help anyone who wants to capitalize on the rifle discipline.
