Events scheduled in support of families

BIG SPRINGS, Neb. -- Families and friends are hosting events in support of teens injured in a collision near Big Springs Saturday, May 18.

At about 5:20 p.m. Saturday, May 18, Nebraska State Patrol troopers were called to a crash on Deuel County Road 195, about one mile north of Highway 30 in Deuel County.

The crash involved a Dodge Durango and a Volkswagen Passat. Preliminary investigation shows that the Passat was southbound on CR 195 when it collided head-on with the northbound Durango.

Investigators believe there may have been limited visibility at the time of the crash because of dust from a nearby field, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The driver of the Passat, Bryer Wilson, 16, of Ogallala, was died at the scene.

A 15-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to Denver Children’s Hospital. The driver of the Durango, Peggy Rose, 67, of Big Springs, was flown by helicopter to Great Plains Health in North Platte with serious injuries. A passenger in the Durango was transported to the Ogallala Community Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
