Community invited to help decorate Veteran grave markers

at Greenwood Cemetery May 24

SIDNEY -- Cheyenne County communities are remembering veterans Monday with Memorial Day services.

The VFW, American Legion and community members are invited to meet at Greenwood Cemetery 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 24. Volunteers will meet to place flags at markers. A short informational class will be held at the cemetery, then volunteers will place flags on the headstones of Veterans.

Several Memorial Day services are scheduled throughout the area. 

The Berea Lutheran Church in Chappell, 2874 Highway 27, will be holding a Memorial Day service 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26 at the Berea Cemetery with Color Guard present. Cake and ice cream will follow in the church basement.

Sidney's annual Memorial Day service is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the flagpole at the north side of Greenwood Cemetery. 

The Dalton American Legion Memorial Service will be at 10 a.m. at the Dalton Cemetery. Lodgepole's Memorial Day service will begin at 10 a.m. at Pleasantview Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Nancy Fawcett Memorial Library. Potter's Memorial Day service will begin at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, followed by an 11 a.m. service at the Potter Cemetery with a wreath laying. There will be a Potluck Lunch to follow after the services at Prairie West Church.

Chappell also will celebrate Memorial Day at 10 a.m. Monday. The service will be held at the Chappell Cemetery. Volunteers are needed  to put out flags (7 a.m.) and take in flags (5 p.m.).

Following the Memorial Day services, the Well Church of Sidney and the Fox Theatre will be hosting free hotdogs and hamburgers 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fox Theatre. At 4 p.m., there will be a free showing of the movie "Indivisible."
