More storms expected for Northeast Colorado
CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- The National Weather Service is predicting an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms over the northeast corner of Colorado today.
There is potential for very large and destructive hail in excess of 2 inches in diameter, with the risk growing as one moves east from Sterling and Akron. Damaging winds, very heavy rain, and an isolated tornado will also be possible from storms that develop over far northeast Colorado. Farther west toward Denver and the mountains, mainly isolated showers and high based storms can be expected with light rain but strong, gusty outflow winds.
On Saturday, June 1, the Sterling, Colo., area was hit by heavy storms resulting in flood conditions. The area's CodeRED weather alert issued a weather warning of a Thunderstorm at about 5:18 p.m., followed by a Flash Flood warning until 9:15 p.m.
Residents have said some areas of Sterling had flood water two to three feet deep. Water stranded vehicles and flooded downtown businesses.
