GURLEY - A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado spawned a tornado warning for Gurley, Neb. on Sunday afternoon. Quarter size hail fell near Gurley.

No tornado was ever reported, but ominous clouds filled the Cheyenne County sky. The threat of lightning closed the Sidney Aquatic Center at 2:45 p.m. Occupants were able to evacuate the pool before rain and gusty winds hit the community. The pool is expected to reopen again Monday at noon for adult swimming and 1 p.m. for the public.

Julesburg registered a wind gust in a severe thunderstorm warning at 72 mph. Sterling had a wind gust of 69 mph and Ovid saw wind gusts at 62 mph and hail measuring an inch in diameter. 

Hail the size of eggs fell four miles east of Harrisburg in Banner County and golf ball size hail was reported north of Potter. 

A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for the Nebraska panhandle and northeast Colorado.
