Reflections of a convicted Colorado impaired driver
Colorado State Patrol shares three-video series
COLORADO -- This is a story of two friends.
On June 10, 2021, one friend made a decision that changed the lives of dozens of people, including her own. She and a friend went out for an evening of fun, had some drinks, and were just catching up, but they forgot to plan how they would get home safely. One friend, Mercedes, got behind the wheel, and the second, Adrien, got in with her. These choices ended in tragedy. One friend survived, and one did not.
Mercedes shares her story from La Vista Correctional Facility and reflects on the loss of her friend, Adrien. Adrien’s parents also take a moment to share their thoughts on how this impacted them and what they thought their son knew to do in this type of situation.
In cooperation with the Department of Corrections, the Colorado State Patrol invites the public to watch this three-part video-short series from the perspective of the impaired driver and the surviving family of the deceased occupant.
In 2023, troopers issued over 4,100 citations for impaired driving and investigated 1,947 crashes determined to be caused by an impaired driver. Driving impaired is rolling the dice with your license, your freedom and your life.
The Colorado State Patrol will share this three-part series on social media this week, but the public can watch all three together by visiting www.csp.colorado.gov.
