Creating future leaders in Cheyenne County

Sidney - Leadership Cheyenne County held its graduation at Beans and Steams on Thursday June 13.
The class is through the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce. Emily Thomas has headed the class for six years. Thomas is on the Cheyenne County Chamber Board of Directors. The class represents a wide variety of the community with goal of making leaders out them and to become substantial partners in our area.
During the class the students choose a project to work on as a group that will impact the community. Thomas did point out that there hasn't been a repeated project since she has worked with the class.
Each member of the class took turns in presenting the project that they worked on throughout the year. It did take them awhile to decide on what project they would be taking on. The final decision was an electronics donation.
Using American Recycling an E-waste recycling service out of Lincoln. The company does not charge for the service to bring you the gaylord, boxes, and pick up service of electronics and are in the Sidney area twice a month.
The company went over what they could accept and what they could not accept and what was free. The class arranged the dates and location on the electronics drop off. Adams Industries donated the use of a truck and trailer to secure the donations and deliver them since the electronics could not get wet. The group said that they would love to see this become an annual event since the recycling of electronics is greatly needed in this area.
When asked if Keep Sidney took this project over would they come back and help? To this question there was a good amount of students that said yes. Some of the most common items donated were large televisions and computer monitors. An unexpected item was an exercise bike with electronics on it. The group donated a check to keep Sidney beautiful for $270.
