KIMBALL -- There was a road closure early Monday morning westbound I-80 between Exit 22 (Hwy. 71/Gering-Scottsbluff) and Exit 20 (Kimball), due to a vehicle fire.

A driver was heading westbound on I-80 early Monday morning when the driver behind him flashed their lights several times, says Kimball Sheriff David Hottell. The driver pulled over to discover something wrong with the axel of his trailer. He unhooked the trailer and moved his truck. The trailer caught fire and the driver attempted to put it out with his own fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.

The trailer was full of alcohol, including a lot of tequila, which all started to burn, Hottell said.

The fire was called in at about 3 a.m. and the fire crew remained on scene until about 5:30 a.m., about the same time the road was re-opened.

Some of the wreckage is still on the side of the road to be cleaned up.
