Cody-Kilgore bond passes to build new school
CODY, Neb. - A $3 million dollar bond for the Cody-Kilgore School District to build a new pre-k through 7th grade school in Cody has passed. In a special election on Tuesday, 159 people voted for the bond, while 66 voted against.
Currently the pre-k and elementary schools are in Kilgore, with the middle and high schools are in Cody. The new school, which would be located in Cody, is estimated to cost $4.2 million.
A group, Cowboy GRIT is raising money to pay for $1.2 million of the building project. So far GRIT has raised $824,000 through pledges and fundraisers.
School Superintendent Ryan Orrock showed News Channel Nebraska some of the issues in the current elementary school, including crumbling ceilings, plumbing problems and heating issues.
The district voted on a $6.5 million bond to build a new school two years ago, but that failed.
