National Night Out brings together community, first responders
SIDNEY -- Tuesday night the excitement in Sidney could be found at the Aquatic Center where the 2024 National Night Out was held.
The National Night Out is an opportunity for the community to interact with law enforcement in a relaxed atmosphere.
Sidney's National Night Out event included free swimming, games, a dunk tank and hot dogs and bratwurst for dinner.
There were also booths representing the Cheyenne County Emergency Communications Center, Sidney Police, the CERT team, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Morrill County Community Ambulance, PlainsWest CASA, Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and the Doves.
PlainsWest CASA director Krista Bruns said she was excited to have the dispatchers at the event.
"That is a really good thing. I'm excited to meet with them because they're really the first call. They are really important to be there where people can see who they're calling, answer any questions that maybe the community has, which would be a really big thing. Sometimes people are nervous when they're calling 911, and what questions do they have to answer," she said prior to the event.
National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships, according to the National Night Out website.
