Offers updates on Project's progress

SIDNEY -- U.S. Air Force officials were in Sidney August 7 hosting another town hall meeting on the Sentinel missile project.

Taylor Walton, Acquisition Program Manager, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, outlined some of the programs in place for the Sentinel Missile Project.

"We want to be able to provide you a quick update on where we are with the real estate acquisition efforts that are ongoing in your community. It is important for us to have you know that the Army Corps of Engineers continues to work with local land owners, negotiate temporary construction easement across our existing utility corridors that we have in the missile field. That effort is ongoing. We also have a land services incorporated. They are a subcontractor to our environmental team," Walton said.

Lt. Col. Eric Green, Sentinel Flight Commander, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, opened the night. He later spoke on the purpose of the meeting.

"Right now, I'm the deputy of the Sentinel deputy at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. We're bringing the town hall to the residents of Sidney, Nebraska, just to provide them with an update on the status of the project," he said.

Lt. Col. Green said the town hall meeting had a good turnout. He commended the residents who attended even with their busy schedules.

The U.S. Air Force is replacing the LGM-30 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the LCG-35A Sentinel ICBM, according to the LGM-35A Sentinel Fact Sheet. The Fact Sheet says the Sentinel project represents the modernization of the land-based leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. It further says "the Sentinel weapon system is the most cost-effective option for maintaining a safe, secure and effective land-based leg of the nuclear triad and would extend its capabilities through 2075."
