SIDNEY - The Sidney High School girls golf team tees off the 2024 season at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Hillside Golf Course in Sidney after weeks of preparation, anticipation and excitement for the new year.
This year the Lady Raiders hope to start the season strong with aspirations of going to the Class B State Tournament in Gering later this fall. There’s hopes the season will be fun and each team member enjoys themselves with, hopefully, little frustration.
“It’s always tough out here, especially with Scottsbluff," Head Coach Tyler Shaw said. "They’re a really tough team. We see them at a lot of meets and Coach Ehler does a great job with them. I know Chadron brings back a lot of players that are pretty tough, a few state qualifiers there. Ogallala has a lot of good tradition of golf there, so they’ll be tough.”
Sidney realizes there’s always a team that pops up out of nowhere and surprises everyone. This year, the girls hope it's them.
Team members have been practicing hard this summer and putting in a lot of effort early this season. Many of the players competed in tournaments or went out individually and golfed several times throughout the offseason.
