Lady Raiders Go 2-0 at Bridgeport Triangular
BRIDGEPORT – The Lady Raider volleyball team improved to 7-3 with a pair of wins at the Bridgeport Triangular on Tuesday. Sidney beat Chadron 25-23, 28-26 in their first match and then survived against Bridgeport 22-25, 25-23, 25-22 in final match of the night.
Bridgeport opened the night with a straight-set win over Chadron 25-23, 25-18 before falling to Sidney in the nightcap to go 1-1 in the triangular. Sidney handed Chadron their second loss of the night in the second match to send the Cardinals home after going 0-2 on the night.
In the third match, Bridgeport built a 14-9 lead against Sidney in the first set before the Lady Raiders went on a 7-0 run to take their only lead of the set. From that point the set was tied at 18, 20, and 21 before the Bulldogs closed out the set 25-22.
The second set was a battled that was tied 11 times with the last time being at 23-23. Sidney scored the final two points to even the match at a game apiece 25-23.
The third and final set saw the Lady Raiders maintain a narrow margin early, Bridgeport pulled ahead 14-13 in the middle of the set, but that would be their only lead of the set. Sidney regained the advantage at 17-16 and would not trail again on the way to a 25-22 win.
Bridgeport is now 7-4 on the season and will host an invitational tournament on Saturday, Chadron falls to 6-6 on the season and will be in action on Friday and Saturday at the Harvest Festival Invitational at Gothenburg. Sidney improves to 7-3 and travels to Western Conference foe Alliance for a match on Thursday.
