Sidney Rolls Past Ogallala

SIDNEY – The Sidney Red Raiders dominated the Ogallala Indians 46-0 in a C1-7 District game Friday night at Weymouth Field, securing their third shutout of the season. After deferring to the second half, Sidney's defense set the tone early, forcing a three-and-out on Ogallala's opening drive. Following a 36-yard punt, Sidney capitalized quickly when quarterback Alek Doty broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run on the Red Raiders second offensive play. The extra point was good, giving Sidney a 7-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
Ogallala fumbled on their next possession, with Sidney recovering at the Indians' 32-yard line. On the first play, Sidney's Lance Holly took a jet-sweep around the right end for a touchdown. Although the PAT was missed, Sidney extended their lead to 13-0.
Ogallala's next possession was the Indians’ longest of the half, moving from their 20-yard line to Sidney's 38. Facing a fourth-and-five, Ogallala was stopped short when Sidney linebacker Keian Kaiser tackled wingback Kolby Nowak for a two-yard loss. Sidney took over and capped a 5-play drive with a 16-yard touchdown by wide receiver Landon Riddle on a jet-sweep around right end, pushing the lead to 19-0.
Sidney's defense continued to stifle Ogallala, forcing another punt on the Indians next possession. However, Sidney muffed the return, giving the Indians back the football on the Sidney 36-yard line. Ogallala moved the ball to the 5-yard line but Sidney's Landon Riddle made a diving interception in the end zone, ending the threat.
Ogallala got another chance after recovering a Sidney fumble at the Red Raiders’ 33-yard line, but Sidney’s defense held Ogallala to negative yardage, forcing a turnover on downs.
Sidney then mounted a 10-play, 71-yard drive, ending with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Doty to Riddle, to extend the lead to 26-0. After the ensuing kickoff, Sidney forced an Ogallala three-and out, holding the Indians to just 6 yards. The Red Raiders added one more touchdown before the half as Doty connected with tight end Keian Kaiser on a 27-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining, to cap off a 5-play, 57-yard drive. The PAT was good giving Sidney a 33-0 halftime lead.
The Red Raiders who have scored on their first possession of the second half in four of their first five games got the ball to start the third quarter, Ogallala's pooch kickoff was caught by Owen Gillham an the Sidney 38, and then Gillham took the handoff from Alek Doty and ran up the middle for 12 yards to midfield, Quarterback Alek Doty did the rest pulling the ball on a read-option and going around right end for a 50-yard touchdown, The PAT was good and Sidney led 40-0, initiating the 35-point running clock for the rest of the game.
Sidney would add another score late in the final period with mostly freshmen on the field to make the final score Sidney 46 Ogallala 0. Quarterback Alek Doty finished the game completing seven of 11 passes for 113 yards and four touchdowns. The junior also carried the ball 9 times for 171 yards and two more scores. On the night Sidney racked a total of 396 yards while holding Ogallala to just 112 total yards.
Sidney improves to 6-0 on the season and will continue C1-7 district play next Friday when they travel to Imperial to battle 3-3 Chase County, Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast beginning with the pregame at 6:00 p.m. on 1340 AM and 95.7 FM, Cheyenne County Country.
