SIDNEY -- In a statement released tonight, Sidney City Manager David Scott announced Police Chief Joe Aikens has resigned.

In his statement, Scott said a complaint was filed Sept. 11, 2024, alleging misconduct by the police chief, Aikens.

According to the press release, Aikens denies all the complaint and all allegations. After 42 years of service, Police Chief Aikens decided to resign his position with the City of Sidney to spend more time with his family. He will receive  His resignation is effective Oct. 31, 2024. 

He will receive all the benefits he is entitled per the City employee policy. 

Investigator Sam Lovato has served as Interim Chief in Aikens' absence.
