Sidney and Greater Area Fund awards $1,250 grant to Way Out West Community Theatre for production of 'CLUE'

SIDNEY -- The Sidney and Greater Area (SAGA) Fund recently awarded a $1,250 grant to Way Out West Community Theatre in support of the upcoming production of the play "CLUE."
This funding will not only bring the production to life but also sustain Sidney’s only community theater program, fostering cultural engagement and creativity for residents of all ages.
Performances of "CLUE" will take place at the Sidney Elks Lodge on November 1, 2, 7, and 8, 2024. The grant will assist with the purchase of scripts, marketing efforts, and cover essential set and costume expenses, ensuring that this high-quality production remains affordable and accessible to the entire community.
“We are thrilled to support Way Out West Community Theatre in bringing this exciting production to our community,” said Melissa Norgard, chairperson of the Sidney and Greater Area Fund. “The arts play a crucial role in enhancing the vibrancy of our town, and by helping keep ticket prices affordable, we’re ensuring that everyone has the chance to experience and participate in local theater. It’s more than entertainment; it’s about fostering creativity and a sense of community.”
The funding comes at a critical time for Way Out West Community Theatre as they continue to grow their program and expand local theater offerings. All work for the production is done by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about promoting the creative arts within Sidney. The community’s strong interest in local theater has demonstrated that these productions are an important cultural outlet that unites residents in meaningful and engaging ways.
In addition to supporting "CLUE," proceeds from ticket sales will be directed toward the Elk’s City Auditorium Renovation project, an initiative aimed at maintaining and enhancing this important cultural space for Sidney and the surrounding areas. By securing this grant, Way Out West Community Theatre can ensure that more ticket proceeds will go toward this long-term effort, contributing to the vitality of Sidney’s arts and culture scene.
“The Way Out West Community Theatre (WOW) is excited to receive the support of SAGA. Our shows are produced by volunteers and all proceeds are used for upcoming productions. We have been working to raise funds for the stage renovations, and now we are able to put the proceeds of this show towards the renovation project. We are hoping to have the resources to hang the new curtains and install the new lighting and sound system in the very near future,” said Cindy Bartling of Way Out West.
