Winter weather advisory and storm warning in place for northeast Colorado, southwest Nebraska
STERLING - Residents in Fort Morgan, Sterling, Julesburg and Holyoke should prepare for significant snowfall and challenging travel conditions while a winter weather advisory and winter storm warning is in effect for all of northeast Colorado until 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Snowfall totals are expected to range from 3 to 7 inches across the advisory area, with the heaviest accumulations anticipated south of Interstate 76. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, raising concerns for blowing and drifting snow, particularly along I-76 and surrounding highways.
A low-pressure system moved through the region that brought snowfall to the mountains Tuesday morning before spreading into the foothills, southern plains and the Palmer Divide by the evening.
With snowfall expected to continue into Wednesday night, travel along major routes may be hazardous, especially during evening hours. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution and check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting cotrip.org.
Deuel, Keith, Perkins and Chase Counties in Nebraska were added to the winter weather advisory early Wednesday morning. 1 to 4 inches of snow is possible in these areas.
The unsettled weather is forecast to persist, with additional snow chances and below-normal temperatures from Thursday through Saturday. While snowfall amounts remain uncertain later in the week, continued winter driving conditions are anticipated into early Thursday and potentially through the weekend.
