SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners today approved a bid of $468,000 to repair the courthouse building roof.

The bid was awarded to All-Seasons Restoration and Roofing of Sidney.

The commissioners opened three bids in the previous meeting, tabling the decision for Building and Grounds Supervisor Tom Payne to review the bids. Bids submitted include Twin City Roofing and Sheet Metal Company of Gering for $421,640, Prairie View Roofing of Kearney for $321,600; and All Seasons Restoration and Roofing of Sidney for $438,000.

"We got three bids for the roof that we opened at the last meeting. We had some questions. You wanted me to review them. Some of the questions we had were about skylights, the R-value on the roof, the roof-top chiller, rooftop drains, whether or not its a tapered system. Going through the bids and talking to these three companies, one bid that did not include any tapering to the rooftop drains, just going back to a flat roof like we have now. They were also the lowest bid. I think we would hurt ourselves in the long run. I'm sure at first there would be no problem, but we're going to end up in the same place we are now with water sitting on the roof," Payne said Monday morning.

All-Seasons Restoration and Roofing of Sidney's bid includes tapered system.

The Twin City Roofing and Sheet Metal Company bid included an option of tapering the roof for an additional $92,000, bringing the bid to $513,480.

Payne added Twin City Roofing wasn't sure they could work around the skylights, and questioned if they would have to pull the chiller. All-Season assured Payne they would not have to pull the chiller, and could work around the skylights, he said. All-Season's R-value is 49 compared to Twin-City at an average R-value of 39. Payne said All-Seasons also offers a better warranty and could start within 30 days of authorization.
