SCOTTSBLUFF --  At the December 2 meeting of the Scottsbluff City Council, two new council members took their oath of office, and a new mayor was selected from within the council.

In the November 5 general election, voters chose two names for city council from four candidates: Jerry Stricker, Selina Lerma, Scott Phillips, and Kasandra Lauder. Stricker and Phillips earned the most votes. Stricker earned 2,259 votes, Phillips received 1,827, Lauder had 1,793, and Lerma garnered 1,612.

Stricker and Phillips were sworn in as the new council members during the meeting.

The council then voted to select a new mayor. The meeting started with Jeannie McKerrigan as mayor. The new council voted council member Betsy Vidlak into the mayor's seat and McKerrigan as vice president of the council.

Outgoing council members Jordan Colwell and Angela Scanlon were recognized for their service to the city during the meeting.
