‘Best outcome possible’: Chadron motel evacuated amid report of armed individual
CHADRON, Neb. - Business has returned to normal after an evacuation of a Chadron motel amid a report of an armed person. Chadron Police received a call around 12:48 p.m. Tuesday regarding an armed, suicidal man at the Best Western West Hills Inn.
Police evacuated the motel, set up a perimeter and used Code Red to notify the public. They also called for additional resources from Nebraska State Patrol, Gordon Police, and Sheridan and Dawes County Sheriff's Offices, along with negotiators from Nebraska State Patrol.
“We responded to what the information was as the time, and I think we responded appropriately,” Police Chief Rick Hickstein told News Channel Nebraska.
However, as the situation unfolded, Hickstein said that they received additional information that the man had actually left the motel before authorities arrived. After more investigation, they discovered that he was actually in another town and had not harmed himself or anyone else.
“This was actually the best outcome possible given the situation,” said Hickstein.
