HASTINGS, Neb. – A new era of Hastings city government wrote its first chapter with five new members Monday night.

Newly elected Mayor Jay Beckby, and four new city council members were sworn in to their elected positions at the Hastings City Council meeting.

Beckby is a Hastings native, and owns several businesses in and around the Hastings area. He replaces former Mayor Corey Stutte, who chose not to run after two four-year terms.

In city council, Michael Anderson (Ward 1), Larry Consbruck (Ward 2), Maggie Esch (Ward 3), and Brian Hoffman (Ward 4), took their oaths of office to replace the four departed city council members whose terms expired.

Current council member Steve Huntley (Ward 1) was named the city council president, and Larry Consbruck was named vice president.

Beckby and the council members wasted no time after their oaths, and approved several resolutions for local businesses.

Finally, council members unanimously reappointed Mark Funkey as City Administrator, Roger Nash as City Treasurer, Jesse Oswald as City Attorney, Lee Vrooman as City Engineer, plus the appointment of Tyler Ficken as City Clerk effective January 4, 2025.
