SIDNEY -- Paul Strommen is stepping down from his seat on the Sidney City Council.

He was elected to represent the 47th District in the Nebraska Legislature. In Cheyenne County, he collected 3,127 votes to Larry L.S. Bollinger's 663.

"I will be resigning from my position as a city council member and Vice-Mayor this evening as I've been selected by the great people of District 47 to represent them at the Legislature for the next four years. So I will be stepping down from this, and moving on to that," Strommen said in the December 17 city council meeting.

He thanked the community, city council and city employees

"I appreciate the opportunity, and I'm proud to have been able to serve the city of Sidney and the people of Sidney. Hopefully, we can find someone to fill the spot, and you guys can continue to do all the great things you've been doing for the city of Sidney," Strommen said to the council.

With Strommen's resignation, Mayor Brad Sherman accepted nominations for vice-mayor. Sherman nominated councilman Brandon Bondegard to be the next vice-mayor. No other nominations were made.
