Single-vehicle power pole crash caused by drunk driver
HASTINGS, Neb. – Authorities say the person who crashed their vehicle into a power pole Wednesday night in Hastings was under the influence of alcohol.
The accident happened Wednesday night around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 281 and 42nd St. in Hastings.
The vehicle crashed into a power line pole on 42nd St. and caused a power blackout on the north side of Hastings, with businesses going dark for more almost hour.
Hastings utilities reported at least 500 customers were without power.
On Thursday morning, Hastings Police identified the driver as Tyler Middleton, 32, of Hastings.
Middleton suffered undisclosed injuries in the accident and was transported to Mary Lanning Healthcare, where the hospital said he was treated and released.
Police cited Middleton for driving under the influence of alcohol, but authorities couldn't say what his BAC level was.
The Hastings Police Department is continuing to investigate further details of the incident.
