Sidney Basketball Teams Sweep Torrington
SIDNEY - The Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders notched wins over Torrington Friday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The Lady Raiders outscored Torrington 27-16 in the second half for a 49-38 win over the Lady Trailblazers, while the Red Raiders opened up an early double-digit lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 34-point win over the Torrington.
The Lady Raiders trailed 14-10 after the first quarter but rallied to tie the game at 22-22 at halftime. Kierra Schrader scire five of her game-high 12 points in the third quarter to give Sidney a 35-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Sidney outscored the Lady Blazers 14-11 in the final period to secure the win.
Kierra Schrader finished the game with 12 points while Kayla Westby chipped in nine points and Carli Black added eight points to the Lady Raider total.
Reid Fiscus scored nine first quarter points as the Red Raiders exploded for a 20-9 lead at the end of the first period. Alek Doty picked up the torch with seven points in the second quarter to extend Sidney’s advantage to 33-17 at the half. The Red Raiders continued to build their lead, outscoring the Trailblazers 38-20 in the second half for a 71-37 win.
Landon Riddle paced the Red Raiders with 18 points while Alek Doty added 15 points. Reid Fiscus also finished in double figures with 13 points.
The Sidney teams are back on the court Saturday afternoon when they host Cheyenne East in the Middle School Auditorium. Freshman games will tip off at 10:00 a.m. with the girls in the Middle School and the boys at West Elementary. Junior Varsity games tip at 11:30 a.m. with the boys at West Elementary and the girls in the Middle School. The Girls varsity will tip at 1:00 p.m. followed by the boys varsity at 2:30 p.m. in the Middle School.
