When will Sonny's Super Snow Mountain melt? Guess to win free groceries!
SIDNEY, Neb. - A towering snow pile in the parking lot of Sonny’s Super Foods on the corner of 10th Avenue and Toledo Street is creating quite the buzz in Sidney.
Locals have a chance to turn their snow-melting predictions into grocery money from radio station 987 The Big Boy and Sonny's Super Foods.
The radio station is inviting listeners to guess the exact date the heap of snow will vanish. The closest guess receives a $250 gift card to Sonny’s Super Foods to fill up their grocery cart. If more than one person guesses the correct melt date, or comes closest, the station will hold a random drawing to determine the winner.
Free registration is open now until Friday, Jan. 24. Participants can submit their guesses online at thebigboy987.com or visit the station’s Facebook page, @TheBigBoy987.
"We had people taking photos and video of the pile of snow and sending them to us after we received our first major snow storm of the season," 987 The Big Boy Morning Show Host Hunter Arterburn said. "It's been a fun way to turn winter into a community-wide guessing game year-after-year. We sure do appreciate Sonny's Super Foods partnering with us and happy they join in on the fun each year.”
The snow pile, dubbed "Sonny's Super Snow Mountain," took shape on Sunday, Jan. 5, after Wieser Construction’s Jim Wieser cleared the lot following seven-inches of snowfall the day before.
This is the third year 987 The Big Boy has hosted the contest. Last year, Kelsey Hauge’s guess of March 2, 2024, proved spot-on. Susan Sutton was the 2023 winner, and both took home the coveted free groceries prize.
