Sedgwick County/Fleming, Gordon-Rushville shine at Garden County Wrestling Invitational
OSHKOSH, Neb. — Sedgwick County/Fleming and Gordon-Rushville emerged as the top teams, claimingtitles in the girls' and boys' divisions at an action-packed Saturday at the Garden County Wrestling Invitational in Oshkosh.
Gordon-Rushville amassed 176 points to claim the boys’ team title, outpacing Sedgwick County/Fleming (150) and Bridgeport (113). The Mustangs' performance was bolstered by individual champions Toby Berndt (215 pounds) and Lain Tausan (285), both winning their final matches by fall. Kyler Vincent (144) and Jaxon Kearns (120) also secured titles for Gordon-Rushville.
Sedgwick County/Fleming was led by victories from Nathan Gonzales (106), Cooper Edson (113), Mario Ortiz (138) and Owen Harris (150).
Garden County's Jase Roberson claimed the title at 157 pounds, pinning South Loup’s CJ Quandt in 2:58, earning a victory for the host school.
Sedgwick County/Fleming captured the top spot in the girls standings with 119 points. The team saw champions in Lillian Miller (140) and Kaiya Hall (135). Bridgeport finished second with 109.5 points, powered by a first-place finish from freshman phenom Elizabeth Menke (120), who remained undefeated this season.
Avalina Stoner (Mitchell) capturing the 100-pound title in a thrilling 15-11 decision over Bayard’s Carlie McKibbin. Mattaya Mills (Sutherland) secured the 105-pound division crown with a pin in 3:41. Mariah Duran (Sandhills Valley) dominated the 155-pound final with a pin in just 29 seconds.
Crawford (94.5) and Wauneta-Palisade (93) rounded out the top five in the boys standings. The girls standings saw Overton (62.5) edging out Mitchell and Sandhills Valley for third place, which tied for fourth with 62 points each.
